Doing our part for the environment and ensuring a healthy future for all, is our upmost priority. We are committed to implementing environmentally-friendly programs, technologies and practices whenever possible.
Clean Energy Commitment
We are dedicated to utilizing clean energy sources whenever possible — that’s why we have committed to solar as our primary energy source. Over the years, Bonipak has installed over 6,640 solar panels, capable of powering a majority of our operating energy. By switching to a primarily solar-based company, we are not only utilizing more clean energy, but eliminating emissions.
Quick facts about our solar canopy:
- Produces enough energy to power 1,500 residential homes annually
- Offsets over 80% of our operation energy
- Reduces over half a million pounds (648,459 lbs.) of CO2 that would be released into the atmosphere annually
caring for Our Land
Everything begins with soil. Bonipak wouldn’t be where it is today if our founders had not settled in the Santa Maria Valley with its rich, nutrient-filled soils and consistent temperatures. We believe in utilizing the best and most sustainable practices to ensure the longevity and continued partnership with our land and its resources. We practice crop rotation to keep our soils packed full of nutrients and to prevent nitrogen leaking into the soil.
Sustainable Packaging
Bonipak is committed to conserving natural resources and limiting the usage of one-time plastics. We create packaging that is both eco-conscious and effective to store produce longer.
We utilize Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) that assist in the prevention of food waste via crushed produce as well as reduced single-use cardboard cartons. These containers are used multiple times, are made up of recycled materials and are 100% recyclable when they do degrade.
Overall, our reusable plastic crates (RPCs) result in:
- 60% less greenhouse gas emissions
- 80% lower water consumption
- 86% less solid waste
- 64% lower energy demand
- 96% less food waste
