Job Title: Director of Engineering and Maintanance

Salary Range: $165,000-$195,000

Location: Santa Maria, CA

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

      The Cooler Operations Team is comprised of eight essential functions. These are Logistics (internal/external fleet), Supply Chain, Receiving, Cooling, Warehousing, Shipping, Manufacturing and Facility Maintenance and Engineering. The team is heavily focused on the receiving, cooling, and shipping of product in the shortest amount of time to ensure finished products are handled according to specifications. Along with the efficient movement of goods into and out of the operation, the team supports and manages the Bonifresh manufacturing operations.  Functional support areas to these functions are Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, and Maintenance. Combined the Cooler Operations will work together as one to ensure all internal and external customer needs are met in the highest regard for people safety, food safety, quality, and external customer needs. 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

     The Director of Engineering & Maintenance is responsible for the management and administration of the total maintenance / engineering program for the Company. The Director of Engineering and Maintenance shall develop and implement strategies that will maximize the financial performance of the company, while maintaining company standards and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, manage, and control maintenance parts & payroll on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Manage and enforce all maintenance activities through system work orders.
  • Capable of exporting factual data from (CMMS) for thorough cost and return on investment analysis.
  • Sets overall maintenance department goals, processes, or procedures to accomplish company objectives.
  • Oversees, motivates, and reviews maintenance supervisors including management of training and professional development.
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities to maintenance supervisors and managers in an effective, positive, and efficient manner
  • Creates a preventive maintenance system as well as procedures to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
  • Provides training and education to employees that includes and is not limited to mechanical, safety, and performance.
  • Participates in objective setting, plan development and performance review of plant performance.
  • Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the fertilizer industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Ensures company has computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment fully implemented.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipates and solves problems in a timely manner, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee general operation of assigned departments, equipment, and employees to ensure proper equipment operation and maintenance, good housekeeping, and safety, environmental and regulatory compliance.

  • Promote culture of excellence and lead operational areas in continuously improving from safety, environmental and operational perspectives as well as implementation of Lean Rules and Principles
  • Initiates, recommends, or facilitates changes to improve the safety, environmental performance, operational control, and efficiency of the facility, or to meet business needs.
  • Meet or exceed all personal and facility targets and objectives, including production, quality, and efficiency targets, establishing, and maintaining action plans where necessary.
  • Develop and maintain operating expense and capital budgets.
  • Manage staffing levels to meet business needs, and ensure that all employees are appropriately selected, trained, and supervised.
  • Manage subordinates through coaching, counseling, disciplining, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Ensure proper recordkeeping for manifests, inspections, inventory, training, timekeeping, production, maintenance, and all other required records for the department.
  • Communicate company policies to employees and enforce safety & environmental regulations.
  • Recommends and enforces compliance with Federal and State Regulatory Agencies.

Requires a high level of skill in both oral and written communication and the ability to effectively present ideas and information.
  • Technical Skills: Intermediate computer skills including the MS office suite of programs. Ability to analyze financial results and develop ROI information on projects. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines. Strong ability to analyze complex situations and develop/recommend solutions. Knowledge of supply chain tools, forecasting processes in sales, marketing operations, finance, manufacturing, and supply chain issues. Prior experience with distribution management tools like Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Trade Management, MRP, and/or CMMS a plus.
  • Experience in Capital Expenditure Project Management with experience in developing and managing the following: 1) Detailed/itemized and accurate costs by project 2) Bidding out larger projects to potential vendors 3) Tracking actual costs to budget and making sure we do not have cost overruns 4) Accurate annual capital expense budget.
  • Competent in AutoCAD, Sketchup or any type of project software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, lift up to 60 lbs.
