Job Title: Production Ag Engineer

Reports To: Director of Equipment and Infrastructure
Classification: Exempt from Overtime
Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000 (DOE)
Job Description
Betteravia Farms/Bonipak is looking for a qualified individual to join the Farm Production Department in Santa Maria, CA as the Production Ag Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for leading agricultural engineering efforts for our farming operations of vegetable and berry crops. This position reports to the Director of Equipment and Infrastructure and will work closely with the rest of the engineering department, ranch managers, and shop department to support the production of a constant supply of quality produce.
Primary Responsibilities
- Field irrigation design
- Manage irrigation equipment inventory, including solid set irrigation, wells, filters, pumps, etc
- Project management of specific production related initiatives
- Field map creation and updates
- Manage troubleshooting & calibrations for shaping, spraying, and planting equipment and ensure reliability
- Document troubleshooting processes and create detailed record books
- Ensure all equipment is maintained properly and kept in the highest operating condition
- Communicate with vendors about new equipment and design feedback
- Manage spare parts inventory to minimize downtime on equipment
- Evaluate current farming practices with a mindset of continuous improvement and drive progress
- Maintain detailed records on equipment and projects (cost and efficiencies)
- Manage GPS equipment and its operation within the different production areas
- Assist with departmental Capital Appropriation Request (CAR)
- Communicate any challenges to management
- Work with local colleges to help create future educational programs
- Monitor each operation so that it meets company standard – Production and Operation
- Ensure compliance in Food Safety, Worker safety, Employee relations and all Government Regulations
- Responsible for ensuring that all company policies and procedures are being always followed
- Assist Shop Manager when time allows during the rainy season
Minimum Requirements
- Agricultural Systems Management or Engineering Degree
- Recent Grad 0- 3 years-experience in related position
- Strong electrical understanding and computer skill
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Good knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides handling (Preferred)
- Good understanding of managed service provider operations and systems administration
- Ability to work within a team and continually provide results
- Working knowledge on Spanish (Preferred)
- Willing and able to travel with extended stays in Yuma during Winter season (Preferred)
- Mechanical and Fabrication Experience (Preferred)
