DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Betteravia Farms’ berry program accounts for 650+ acres per planting year, and consists of all four berry types that are marketed and sold by Driscoll’s. All 3+ million cartons are distributed through our partner, Driscoll’s. On top of the over 3 million cartons harvested, the berry program also employs over 800 people during the peak of our season. The program objective is to be top tier in the valley in terms of production, quality, innovation, and care for our workforce.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Production Size: 250+ acres of both conventional and organic blakberries, raspberries, and blueberries.
Scope of Responsibility: Responsible for supervising all harvest crew activities while maintaining an efficient, safe, and compliant working envorinment.
Summarized Responsibility:
- Manages and supervises, with hands on involvement, all caneberry harvest activities
- Identifies and sources labor; develops and manages crews, ensures proper training, and cultivates high morale.
- Responsible for collection and submission of caneberry Harvest data.
- Responsible for communicating accurate estimates of caneberry crops and to deliver high quality to the cooler in a timely manner.
- Ensures compliance with all labor laws, audits or food safety, company policy and workers safety.
- Maintains a well-organized, clean and safe work environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works, shares, and communicates well with other program personnel.
- Achieves above average quality scores and maintains a high position on the Driscoll’s district leaderboard.
- Accurately manages and records the harvesting of multiple SKUs and pack types.
- Assures accurate harvest forecasts to Driscoll’s on a daily basis.

- In-field crew boss
- May or may not include QA Supervisor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Management of all harvest crew activities, which includes, but is not limited to:
- Moving necessary equipment before work starts
- Keeping the legal requirements up to company standards
- Assuring all tools and equipment required are provided
- Maintaining contact with crew leaders and assuring financial and work efficiencies.
- Determining labor targets and goals o Assuring labor data records are accurate and reported in a timely manner
- Ensuring harvest intervals are properly managed according to all external factors affecting fruit development
- Point of contact between field employee’s and worker safety when it comes to injury, training paperwork, and worker legality
- Providing and ensuring all paperwork necessary is completed before any work begins
- Working closely with worker safety to prevent injury to the best of our abilities
- When an injury takes places, providing and seeing through all required documents and assistance
- Coordination of activities with team all program team members
- Proper management of harvest labor around all non-labor activities
- Ensure proper communication with production and agronomy to maximize yield outputs

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Demonstrated experience in berry production and in managing labor. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as a part of a collaborative team. Ability to prioritize deadlines & projects, including coordinating the efforts of multiple contributors, and establish time frames for completion of projects and assignments.
- Willingness and ability to embrace and follow the Bonita Packing Co. Employee Handbook. Ability to interact constructively and employees at all levels, upper management, owners, and community members, with diverse personalities and cultures, exercising sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy with an emphasis on flexibility, customer service and professionalism.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, including effective writing skills to prepare correspondence, various documents and reports, and email with knowledge of correct usage of English language, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Willingness and ability to meet Bonita Packing and department standards for attendance.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows operating systems and related business and communication software and a demonstrated ability to learn and use various campus administrative computing systems and applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI with the ability to update and expand skills as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Employee must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, lift up to 60 lbs.
